Milk Can

Paul
Minnesota

As seen in the close-up of the can’s side, this milk can was used by the Redwood Creamery in Redwood, Minnesota.  The full milk cans were transported in wagons or trucks to the creamery in cans like this one.  Milk was poured from the milker (or pail) into the can.  Before refrigeration and bulk tanks, the milk in the can was sometimes cooled in a tank of running spring water until it was transported to the local customers, or as in this can’s case, to the local creamery.  Every small rural farming town seemed to have had a creamery where they would make butter, cheese, and other delicious dairy products.
